Even Smart Spenders Can Save More

Inspired by your advice, I bought a perfect-fitting suit at a high-end consignment shop for $24.99 and two quality silk ties, which looked unworn, for $8 each. I wore the suit at a family function this weekend and yesterday to tape six television segments.

They're funny . . . and have good judgment too!
I have urged those who are continually short of cash to subscribe to the inexpensive HomeEconomiser Newsletter. The authors, Annette and Steve Economides, are fine, humorous people with solid judgment.

Laundered Money
Hi Everyone,

You'll never believe this, but I was sitting at the laundromat today reading the sample issue of the HomeEconomiser you sent me. When I got to the subscription info I debated spending twelve dollars for something I really don't "need." First I thought I wouldn't, then I knew I WANTED TO, then the voice inside me said, "It's only twelve dollars. Then I firmly decided NO! I don't really need it!

When I opened up the washing machine I found the enclosed twenty dollar bill! So I DO want to subscribe. Oh, and by the way, "Keep the change!"

College Re-Education
We wish the issues about paying for a college education were around ten years ago, we could have saved THOUSANDS! Our daughter owed $30,000 when she graduated, and with our help, ten years later is down to $19,000! Keep up the good work!

The Windfalls Plan really works!
One of the first HomeEconomiser issues I received was about Windfalls. I found it interesting and told my husband about it that same night. We both wrote down 5 things we each wished for. Some things on our two lists were the same things, some were not. We combined these and added debt payoff (50%) and charities (giving -10%). I typed the list up with a prayer at the bottom.

Within 3 and a half months my husband received 2 raises at work and we received 2 windfalls totaling $10,700.00!!!!!!!! All completely unexpected. We completely paid off credit card debt and achieved a couple of our windfall goals. Our other goals now have nice starting points too. It was so wonderful to know exactly where the money would go before it came in. No stress. No arguments or debates. It was all written down. My husband also received 3 gift cards to local dinner spots and one to a movie theater. We were able to treat the whole family to an afternoon at the movies, something we almost never do.

We have been so amazed with the blessings and prosperity that has come our way recently. I absolutely love your newsletter. We have always been pretty good at keeping our debt down but we've been very "reactive" to our monthly paychecks. Not proactive at all. Your two most recent newsletters helped me so much. I am so motivated to get these accounts going. I have dedicated this year to making our finances proactive and to work for us.

Thank you, thank you so much.

I'm Thinking Cheap!discipline your money
One of my favorite articles was, Is Your Money Disciplined? (June 04). All the Back Fence ideas help me save money too. As a matter of fact, the entire newsletter makes me think more like an economizer.

Mom is Cooking Again!
I really love your newsletter. It's just what I've been needing all these years. It’ really helped me in more ways than one. I'm a single mom and for years it's always been easier for me to go to a fast food place or restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And of course, I never had money for other things we needed. But thank God you opened up my eyes! I have since started looking through the ads on Wednesdays and I've gone to the grocery store (something I haven't done for years). My fridge, freezer and pantry are overstuffed and boy is my family happy. Mom is cooking again!!!

Not only that, I've saved money and been able to take care of our other needs that I didn't have money for before. Thanks for your help!

Jean from Dallas, Texas
