START SAVING ON INSURANCE NOW!

InsWeb.com is a great resource for quoting Auto Insurance and Homeowners insurance. We discovered them after reading a Consumer Reports article about Auto Insurance quotes. We were hesitant at first to submit personal data through this website, but our experience has proved to us that it is very secure and we have received no spam. Our information was submitted to numerous companies (More than 28 are listed on the web site) and we started receiving quotes within 24 hours.

We spent about 15 minutes punching in our information and ended up saving $400 every six months on our auto insurance.

About the Book

We've been told by readers that this is one of the easiest finance books to read, understand and apply. This book will make you feel like you're getting your own private coaching session.

We've included lots of stories — ours and those of people we've helped. And we've even let our kids tell you what they think about their crazy parents' money habits.

You'll be taken you through every area of a household budget from clothes to cars and lots more in between. We'll show you how to save money and time on feeding your family, plan fun and inexpensive recreation and even take great vacations, all without debt.

It's not about formulas and calculations, it's more about figuring out what's really important to you and your family and making it happen. We aren't just preaching a gospel of thrift, we're giving you a behind the scenes look at how we've lived, raised five happy kids, paid off our first house in nine years, never had a car payment and had lots and lots of laughter.

Media Update
1.4.07

We're heading to NYC the week of January 8, to tape the balance of our segment for ABC's 20/20. The show will air on Friday, January 19.

Daughter Becky brought this blurb to our attention last week. Nice comments from the people at Barnes and Noble (where she works)

From the Editors at Barnes and Noble
Radio broadcaster Paul Harvey praised this book as one of the three best how-to-do-it books it ever written; the other two are the Bible and Voltaire's Candide. Even without such superlatives, it's difficult to overestimate the frugality of this tightwad's guide. Suffice it to note that the economy-minded Economides feed their family of seven on $350 a month! America's Cheapest Family Gets You Right on the Money covers every aspect of true cheapskate living: from shopping and menu planning to saving, taxes, reducing debt, and cutting back on utilities. Thrift-aholic heaven.

They may convince you that a lot of small efforts can add up to big savings and relief from financial headaches.

The Big Endorsement

We received many wonderfully positive endorsements, but this first one was something we could only dream about. We were told it could never happen and we shouldn't even ask for it because it was impossible to get.

Some day we'll tell you "The Rest of the Story" about this, but for right now, just know that what you are reading is nothing short of miraculous in our minds:

Paul Harvey LetterOf all the how to do it books ever written, the best and most constructively useful are The Bible, Voltaire’s Candide — and this one.

The time is right, right now, for somebody to give us all a top sergeant lesson in practical economics: “There is no free lunch.”

Congratulations, Annette and Steve Economides; I pray your readers will practice what you teach.

Paul Harvey,  Legendary American Radio Broadcaster and host of The Rest of the Story on the ABC Radio Network

Steve and Annette Economides’ last name just happens to match what they do joyously and well: Economize. The word “cheap” attracts attention, but it’s misleading. With five children, this family eats well, dresses well and has wonderful times together, all for amazingly little money. A pleasure to read, this book gives superb practical advice—lots of it—about money. It also teaches how to save time, cut stress, and enhance relationships. This wise and sensible couple are models for a life of joy and fulfillment, not to mention good parenting. It’s the best how-to-live book I’ve ever read, by far.

Archie M. Richards, Jr. — syndicated columnist and the author of Understanding Exchange-Traded Funds.

Having known this couple since 1988, I can tell you everything they say works and is true.  Steve and Annette have a heart for God and helping others.  I’ve seen them at their best and at their lowest, when true character is revealed.  Anyone wanting a handle on their finances can learn and profit from their principles. In America, 80% of us are slaves to our possessions. What the book doesn’t say directly is that living as an economizer builds character, marriages, families, and frees people to focus on what is important in life.

Wilson J. (Jody) Humber, PhD, CFP — investment counselor and author of Dollars and Sense and The Financially Challenged.

As an attorney, I've represented thousands of hardworking families who are trying to make it in modern America on a single income.  This book breaks down any financial barriers that would prevent a family from home schooling or living on one income.

The Book Has a Name!
5.15.06

It's Official! Random House has finally settled on a title!
Here's how it worked. We submitted a boat load of title ideas and visitors to this Web site also sent in a good number (thanks to all of you who voted on the many title ideas we had and sent in some of your own too). In the end, it was our editor and several people from the marketing department who made the decision. Apparently, long titles are the in thing these days (along with even longer sub-titles). We've been told that it will help potential buyers know what the book is about.
