Whenever we ask people what their parents taught them about money, the inevitable answer is "not much". They may have encouraged savings or taught us to balance a check book. Beyond that, most of us entered into adult life knowing very little about the basics of personal finance.

The Money Smart Kids Financial Training Kit is kidKids who save money are smart kids. This is Abbey Economides - Age 9 - her net worth is over $300 tested. Since 1995 our kids and hundreds of others have been the "test market" for this system. It teaches basic money skills while encouraging good attitudes about chores and school. Money is divided into different envelopes for; Giving, Saving and Spending. We teach the older kids to use a portion of their "earnings" to purchase their own clothes. This completely eliminates the "gimmes" for $100 sneakers.

Abbey, at age 9, loves to save, give and of course spend the money she has earned.

My Giving Bank - This is a great tool for younger kids (ages 3 to 8 years old). Our kids used this for years and loved it. Once they can perform basic math functions we move them into the MoneySmart Kids Envelopes.
