Clothes

We can't tell you the number of killer, brand name designer clothes we've purchased over the years. We just had a camera crew from a national TV talk show follow us through a S*avers Thrift store last week. We were challenged with finding as many complete outfits as we could for $100. In the end we found about seven outfits (for guys and girls) — over 24 different clothing items for $104 (tax included). That's an average of $4.24 each. And this shopping spree included Abbey (13 years old) finding a beautiful, sequined, satin ball gown ($25).

PLATO'S CLOSET
Clothes for Teens and Twenty-Somethings

Denise sent in this tip: My teenage daughter loves shopping at Plato's Closet. It is a teen resale shop that only carries name brand clothes like Hollister, Abercrombie and Aeropostle. They are located in many states. They are a bit more expensive than a regular resale shop or garage sales, but it is full of clothes all teens would love to wear. My daughter has bought $80 jeans for $12. Let someone else pay full price! Another great thing is they will buy name brand stuff on the spot from you which means cash in your pocket.

We checked out Plato's Closet web site. It looks good. Over 200 franchise location across the US.

2008 CALENDARS $1

HomeEconomiser Newsletter subscriber Kaeli sent in this great find from Michael's (Arts and Crafts Store).

As you are probably aware, calendar prices are outrageous!  Granted you can also get them free through different businesses, but I have always liked to give them as gifts too, they are often a great fit.  So I wanted to tell you about the calendars I found the other day.  At Michaels (a craft store) they are selling very nice 2008 calendars for $1.  This is not a sale price.  They even have 2 year pocket planners (great variety to chose from).  I even got a calendar that is set up so when the month is done, you tear off the photo and it becomes a postcard (what a great reminder to send someone a note).  Just thought I would pass it along!

America's Cheapest Family Comment: S*ave even more by watching your Sunday Newspaper for a Michael's ad and clipping the 40% off coupon. Use it for one regularly priced item. We love saving with those coupons!

START S*AVING ON CAR I*NSURANCE NOW!

We regularly promote quoting your Auto and Home Owners insurance. It is the easiest and quickest way to s*ave hundreds, if not thousands of dollars each year.

InsWeb.com is a great resource for quoting Auto Insurance and Homeowners insurance. We discovered them after reading a Consumer Reports article about Auto Insurance quotes. We were hesitant at first to submit personal data through this web site, but our experience has proved to us that it is very secure and we have received no spam. Our information was submitted to numerous companies (More than 28 are listed on the web site) and we started receiving quotes within 24 hours.

We spent about 15 minutes punching in our information and ended up saving $400 every six months on our auto insurance.
